There was probably an Anglo Saxon church on the site and there was certainly a Norman one. By the 13th century the Spennithorne estate was in the hands of the FitzRandolphs who held it until the 16th century.
The church was rebuilt in the 12th century and extended to its present size. The existing tower dates from the 14th century. The building was used in the 1970s and 80s for the BBC series “All Creatures Great and Small”.
