Top violinist Philippa Mo Wins Award

We are delighted that top violinist and Swaledale Festival performer Philippa Mo won a Women’s Radio Station ‘Future Classic Women Award 2020’ earlier this month.  The Awards programme, which has been running since 2018, showcases talented female musicians in the classical field and explores what it means to be a woman in classical music today.

Listen to Philippa’s 'nominee' interview with radio presenter Steffania Passamonte here in which she speaks of her music travels, performing in unusual spaces and introducing concert pieces in Mandarin!  You will also hear about her work with the Dales-based photographer Gullwing Photography and be treated to some gorgeous recordings of Kreisler, Piazzolla, Leo Geyer and Handel. And here is the link to a follow-up interview with Philippa after the news of her win was announced.

Philippa says: ‘This radio programme exists to promote live music and the fantastic women who have not only forged difficult paths but have also become leading artists in their fields. I’m very proud to have been chosen as a winner amongst so many inspirational musicians.’

Philippa performed with Retorica in Swaledale Festival 2017 and has visited care homes as part of our Wandering Minstrels programme.  We cannot wait to welcome her back in the future.
